Carbon hold

Trees hold a huge amount of carbon. Forests help create the very air we breathe and are essential to life on this planet. We were once a forest based society and as they rapidly dwindle in size and diversity we again begin to relearn this very important kinship. This huge white pine stands in an urban forest in kitchener (Bleams and Homer Watson)  A beautiful older growth wood managed by the City of Kitchener who do a wonderful job.
Happy trails every one and have a good weekend

I was walking on my lunch on a blustery day and heard a loud boom that sounded like a gunshot. It is an urban forest in Kitchener so I knew guns weren't allowed there. I turned to see a large maple snap off about 40 feet from the ground and crash to the forest floor. I see all the wind-falls on the ground but I have never experienced this first hand. I shouted a big woo who and the guy I just passed said " wasn't me" It is amazing to think how much strain a tree truck withstands on a windy day. A truly remarkably entity that responds with more strength as stresses  increase. Be strong and or flexible if you want to survive, a good lesson for all

apple pie on the side

I was out to my sisters the other day for the fall apple pie making lesson. I love apple pie at this time of year, especially for breakfast. My sisters are all very crafty and I love them to pieces. While I was there I took a few pictures of this side table I made a few years back. This one in bubinga and walnut has an open structure that really shows off the legs. The legs are a festival of curves and really convey what is possible with hand tools and the amazing results. Shaping by hand is my most enjoyable task at the bench, where the hours flow into nothing and the world seems to fall away. Like eating apple pie. Happy fall everyone.   DM
